Women in the Environment proudly participated in Dallas College’s annual sustainability conference again this year. The full-day gathering included numerous exhibitors and collaborators, sharing their stories and environmental initiatives with the several hundred attendees. Keynote speaker William Kamkwamba, Malawian inventor, engineer and author gained remarkable renown in 2001 when he built a wind turbine to power electrical appliances in his family’s house in Wimbe. Since then he has built a solar-powered water pump that supplies water to the entire village. This year’s sustainability summit was truly a call to action with attendees discovering sustainable practices that can be easily integrated into daily life—and ignite change in our daily lives.
